Meet Dr. Vanessa R. Anderson

Dr. Vanessa R. Anderson is a writer whose work is deeply informed by her extensive background in social work, psychology, suicide prevention, and education. Holding a dual Bachelor of Arts from the University of Tampa, a Master’s in Counseling from Grand Canyon University, and a Ph.D. in philosophy/performance psychology, also from Grand Canyon University, Dr. Anderson brings a unique and multifaceted perspective to her writing.

As a former professor of psychology, sociology, and critical thinking, Dr. Anderson has honed her ability to analyze and understand the complexities of human behavior. She has made significant contributions to suicide prevention, having trained  professionals and individuals, ranging in age from 12 to 70, in Safe Talk, a crucial suicide prevention strategy. Through international and domestic workshops, she serves as a dedicated advocate for mental health awareness and is the founder of the suicide prevention organization Blue Moon 211 Inc.

Dr. Anderson’s clinical experience is equally impressive, encompassing a wide range of restorative modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), connection/compassion-focused therapy (CFT), mindfulness, motivational interviewing (MI), and trauma focused therapy (TF) working with  adolescents, young adults and adults. She also taught and conducted workshops on relaxation techniques such as Tai Chi and meditation.

Her writing is driven by a profound fascination with the intricacies of the human mind and a deep admiration for the resilience of the human spirit. Through her storytelling, Dr. Anderson explores the depths of human experience, offering readers insights into the challenges we face and the strength we possess to overcome them. Her writing style is characterized by its insightful, compassionate, and accessible approach, blending clinical understanding with a deeply human touch. She has written several books, including The Chronicle of a Tin Woman and Thesis Licensed Counselors Assessments and Treatment for African American Women at Risk of Suicide., Shadows, Inner Compass writing journal, Rage Reset ( Emotional Regulation for Teens); Reset and Rise writing journal, The Quiet Storm,( Depression and Anxiety); From Silence to Strength; (A Writing Journal of Empowerment). She has also written numerous articles for Lyfe Magazine on mental health wellness and poetry and has appeared on many radio shows and podcasts.
